All the heads of Europe have meet to resolve an important problem. Surely, as countries supporting globalisation, and imposing its methods of globalisation on others, they met to discuss ways to halt famine in the Horn of Africa, or to help victims of flooding or other catastrophies and disasters in the rest oof the world. The lives of so many people are at risk. Men, women and children are needlessly dying. People are fleeing from their homes. But no, they met to discuss European debt!

In addition to what is mentioned in this summary, an overarching aspect of IMF work has been its ideology, defined in the Free Dictionary as: “A set of doctrines or beliefs that form the basis of a political, economic, or other system”. The predominant ideology in the IMF has been neoliberalism.
This ideology is false. Monetary value does not exist outside the people that give it value. Markets do not exist outside the people who participate in them.
Neoliberalism has been the framework underlying groupthink, the use of limited paradigms to explain events, cherry-picking of research findings to support this ideology, and the inability to identify a crisis in the IMF.
Ideologies are indeed hard to destroy: they can so easily become herecies. Historically, people have been punished for disagreeing with a predominant ideology. For example, Galileo gave way to the ideology of the day, but he was right!
It is hard to take a stand against prevailing ideologies. But we need to take a stand, not against the IMF, but against the predominant neoliberal idoelogy in the West. Ideology stifles not only thinking deeply and creativity, but also worldwide harms people, negatively affecting development.

Exposing the truth is so vital. That i believe. But it seems that Mr Assange is not attempting to do so with the info he has leaked. He has now, by revealing military assets of the US and British governments, entered into the world of aiding terrorists. He is now, unfortunately, a terrorist and should lose his his freedom and yes maybe his life. He did not release the list of British and American high value sites to reveal truth. He did so with the thought of harming these two countries. His actions and threat of actions if arrested are an attempt to blackmail several governments. He will and should pay for his actions.

Mr Walsh,
Excellent article. I feel that the world is entitled to the truth, and I personally support wikileaks in their endeavor. As for Mr. Smiths’ comment, you call yourself an american…but you’re too willing to give up a little bit of freedom to gain a little bit of security. Unfortunately without people like Mr. Assange we wouldn’t be informed of any of the menacing details of the corruption around our world. We need organizations to uncover misdoings and break stories to society. Without them we’re just moving in the direction of a 1984 George Orwell way of life. I’m not saying that everything in Wikileaks is sensible and hard, compact evidence; but it is a great way to educate oneself on the other side of things. To gain different perceptions. Thanks!
