Another eruption is possible from a larger volcano form Iceland’s glacier, said scientists in Europe, as there has been a 200 percent increase in the activity of the Katla volcano in Iceland. The government has assured that it is ready to face the situation, if and when it arises.

MSNBC has reported that the volcanic activity of the Katla volcano has almost tripled of late and it might erupt in the near future. The report also says that there has been a substantial rise in shocks and tremors being felt in areas around the volcano.

The Katla volcano lies under the Myrdalsjokull icecap, which is just 12 miles away from Eyjafjallajokull, which erupted earlier this year and was responsible for air traffic to be stalled and innumerable flights to be halted in Europe. The Katla is known to erupt twice in 100 years and it last erupted in 1918. Its recent activity began on March 21 and its eruption is considered due as it is known to erupt in tandem with Eyjafjallajokull.

Four earthquakes were felt near Katla in a span of 12 hours on May21. Iceland’s President Olafur Grimsson has warned the European governments and airline authorities to be prepared against the actions of Mother Nature, as the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull had caught their aviation systems unaware and the response to the ash cloud was only a reactive one which had an impact on its effectiveness.
