The Copenhagen summit were on the brink of collpase Thursday morning, as officials from the rich countries, major developing nations and small island states said they had “given up on getting a substantive deal”.
The revelations come at a time when over 100 world leaders including US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are heading for copenhagen to provide their final contributions on a deal.
Various talks have emerged suggesting that Denmark may try to revie the talks by formally introducing a version of a negotiating draft from last week and effectively imposing it on the summit. Nevertheless, the draft which was lead to the Guardian last week has infuriated developing nations and a re-entry could trigger complete chaos.
The fact that collapse is in the air was further aggravated as China – the largest emitter and an essential link to achieve any deal – said it saw no form of achieving a detailed agreement on global warming.
