Floods

Around 100 people have lost their lives in Central America to floods and landslides initiated by Agatha, the first tropical storm to hit the Eastern Pacific this season.

Officials have said that torrential rains brought along by the tropical storm have caused more than 80 deaths in Guatemala alone. Some people have also lost their lives in Honduras and El Salvador, and about 74000 people have been pushed out of their homes

Mexico and Central America were hit by the storm Agatha on Saturday and Sunday and winds with velocity up to 75 kilometers per hour created landfall near the border between Mexico and Guatemala.

Evacuation of thousands of people had already been carried out in Guatemala following the eruption of the volcano Pacaya. The eruption is believed to have killed one person and led to the closing of Guatemala’s main airport on Thursday.
