3.1 million people have lost their job since April of 2008, according to Eurostat’s latest unemployment report released Tuesday, reaching a 1-year high.
The unemployment rate in the Eurozone soared to 9.2% in April, up from March’s 8.9%, the highest rate since September 1999, according to Eurostats’ latest report.
In the 27-member European Union, unemployment reached 8.6% in April, up from 8.4% in March.
The latest unemployment figures, point to 20.8 million people out of work in the EU in April, an increase of 556,000 people from the previous month. Eurozone jobs shed were at 396,000, reaching 14.58 million unemployed.
The Netherlands had the lowest unemployment at 3.0%, also standing straight was Austria with a mere 4.2%. Not fairing so well, was Spain with 18.1%, Latvia with 17.4%, and Lithuania at 16.8%.
