Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi has called for a Jihad, or “holy war” against Switzerland according to news reports on Thursday.

The Libyan leader declared Switzerland “faithless” during a speech in Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city. The Libyan leader urged Muslims to boycott Swiss products and ban Swiss planes and ships given that Switzerland was “a country of infidels who have destroyed Allah’s house”.

“The masses of Muslims must go to all airports in the Islamic world and prevent any Swiss plane landing, to all harbours and prevent any Swiss ships docking, inspect all shops and markets to stop any Swiss goods being sold.”

The Swiss people voted on a referendum to ban the construction of minarets in a nationwide vote in November, that caused outcry throughout the muslim world.

Switzerland has not commented on the remarks made by Colonel Gadaffi.
