London Underground which manages the city’s subway system is cutting 1,000 jobs. London Underground to cut 1,000 jobsOr 5 per cent of its workforce. London Underground employs around 20,000 people.

A spokesman for the Underground said Thursday that people who work in administrative, finance and legal jobs will be affected.

Union leaders responded to the announcement describing it as a “body blow”. They said the lost jobs would lead to service cuts.
