A massive tropical cyclone storm, named “Xynthia” battered the western coast of Europe Sunday, leaving as many as 51 people dead, said authorities.
France was hardest hit by “Xynthia”, with at least 45 dead, said French Prime Minister François Fillon. The storm left nearly 900,000 people without electricity in France.
The storm is now threatening Britain as it heads North towards Scandinavia, forcing Britain to issue serious flood alerts.
Winds reached about 130 mph (200 kph) on the summits of the Pyrenees and up to nearly 100 mph (160 kph) along the Atlantic Coast.
