Shocking revelations in a study made by the Opinion Research Corp. in December show how 77 per cent of Americans suffer the “head in the sand syndrome”. Unfortunately, in times of crisis as with any problem created by man, the human being prefers delusion and supression as opposed to realizing an opportunity for change, improvement and recovery for a sustainable future. The recent survey made by Opinion Research Corp. was highlighted in an article on Bizjournal.com: “Seventy-seven percent of Americans think the U.S. media are making the economic situation worse by highlighting negative news and, as a result, lowering consumer confidence and investment activity.”
Not only are these 77% of Americans pointing their finger at the media for “highlighting negative news” but they are also blaming the media for “lowering consumer confidence and investment activity”. The survey conducted among 1,000 adults in December asked: “Do you think the financial press is making the economic crisis worse by projecting fear into people’s minds?” Shocking revelations show how the majority of these adults didn’t think out-of-the-box or at least far enough to realize that the crisis wasn’t caused by the news but that the news is merely highlighting facts and realities.
It would be interesting to see how the rest of the world compares in such a survey so please feel free to leave your comment on our poll: Do you think the press is making the economic crisis worse by projecting fear?.
