A former CIA chief has said that a military strike on Iran now seems more probable regardless of any further diplomatic actions, given that Tehran keeps pushing ahead with its suspected nuclear program.
Michael Hayden, a CIA chief under President George W. Bush told CNN’s State of the Union that a strike now “seems inexorable”.
“A U.S. military strike on Iran has become more likely and could be justifiable in the future,” Hayden told CNN. Hayden suggested that Iran would go to the point of nearly having a nuclear weapon, which would be as destabilizing to the region as actually having a nuclear weapon.
European nations toughened economic sanctions against Iran Monday similar to US sanctions imposed last month, both well beyond the strengthened sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council on June 9.
Iran has continuously stated its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, such as generating energy.
