CH-53 Helicopter

According to statements from the Ministry of Defence of Romania a helicopter with six Israeli and one Romanian soldiers has crashed during joint military exercises. All occupants are feared dead.

The Israeli transport helicopter CH-53 was flying at a low altitude and lost radio contact Monday afternoon. Initial media reports suggested that US military personnel were on board.

The military war games codenamed “Blue Sky 2010″ began July 18 and are scheduled to last until July 29. The war games aim at training joint crews of transport aircraft flying at low altitude in search and rescue missions and medical evacuation type (Medevac), without the execution or use of firing real ammunition.

Earlier this month, the Romanian Ministry of Defence reported that an Israeli helicopter crashed Sunday July 18th at about 17:00. The Israeli helicopter was a CH-53 transport type, participating in joint exercises Romanian-Israeli Air Blue Sky in 2010. The helicopter made an emergency landing in the city Priboiu, Dambovita county.
