Israel, in collaboration with Greece, has been carrying out war games on the island of Crete, in Souda Bay at a Greek air base. Haaretz reported that the war game has been given the codename “MINOAS 2010″ and consists of aerial maneuvers for practicing long range missions and refueling in mid-air.
In all, a total of 10 planes capable of performing long range attacks, which include five F15l Rams and five F16I Sufas, were tested by the Israeli Air Force. While the aerial refueling exercise was done by an Israeli Air Force Boeing, CH-53 Israeli helicopters were used for the purpose of rehearsing rescue missions for the pilots.
The report says that 15 F16s took part in the maneuver from the Greek side. The Greeks have the coveted S-300 anti-missile system, which the Iranians want to acquire. It has come at a time when Iran is being continuously under the threat of a military attack by Israel, and efforts are being made in Washington to gain international support in favor of increasing sanctions against Tehran.
While Iran, which has signed the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT), has been saying that its nuclear activities are being used for civilian applications, Israel has alleged that the Iranian government wants to begin a ‘nuclear war’.
