The private sector in the United States shed 491,000 jobs in the month of April, according to the latest ADP Employer Services survey results released on Wednesday.
March’s figures were adjusted down to 708,000 jobs, from previous estimate of 742,000. The latest report shows a slight slowdown in the number of jobs lost. The total amount of jobs lost in the private sector since the recession hit the U.S. in December 2007, now amounts to 5.72 million, according to ADP. Government figures reveal 5.3 million.
Official government figures of monthly job losses are due to be released on Friday, with analysts expecting around 600,000 jobs lost in the month of April.
In the March report, unemployment rose to a 25-year high of 8.5 percent.
