Occupancy at Hawai’i hotels sank to a more than two-decade low in March, with about one-third of all hotel rooms empty, according to the latest monthly survey of visitor accommodations reports The Honolulu Advertiser.
The paradise island has seen its hotel occuapancy at 66.9 per cent during the month of March, an 11 percent drop compared to the 77.3 per cent a year earlier, and the lowest since the survey began in 1987.
The March drop in visitors was the 13th consecutive month of declines and the lowest in 22-years. The latest figures for Hawaii tourism confirm a global slump in travel and tourism. Hawaii is not the first, and will definitely not be the last.
The big showdown will be over the coming months, especially June, July and August which is the high season for most resorts in the Northern hemisphere.
