The unemployment rate in the US has soared from 8.9 percent in April to 9.4 per cent in May, according to the latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Labor Department.
The number of Americans that lost their jobs was at 345,000 raising the total number out of work to 14.5 million in May.
The US unemployment rate is the highest in over 25 years a reflection of the deep recession, the longest since World War II.
The unemployment rate in April was revised to 8.9%.
